Founded in 1872, the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary is not only Taiwan’s oldest theological school but also one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions for theological education in Asia. Perched on the edge of the Yangming Mountain overlooking Taipei, the manicured campus grounds are home to an international community of students and scholars focused on pursuing the knowledge of God, and performing the ecclesiastical and social work of God’s kingdom in Taiwan and abroad.

The educational heritage of the college as well as its focus on rigorous, research-led teaching is well-known throughout the region. Every year, students from across Taiwan, together with an increasing number of international students, chose the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary as their academic home. The college, known locally as Taishen, caters for students at all tertiary levels study, promoting a deep sense of academic scholarship at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. Our range of research institutions and centers makes the college the ideal location for students pursuing research-based higher degrees. While the college acts as the teaching arm of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, we welcome students from a broad range of denominations and traditions.

At the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary, we realize that learning is a process that flourishes through personal experience. Thus students are expected to actively participate in their learning and are placed into an environment that encourages personal reflection and academic exploration.

Theology from Global and Local Perspectives

As its name suggests, the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary represents the voices of Taiwan’s diverse Christians, and welcomes students from among Taiwan’s indigenous tribes, as well from Mandarin-speaking and Taiwanese-speaking communities. The college offers a unique focus on local and contextual theological discovery.

Yet the college also enjoys a wealth of international contacts and is a member of various global networks. On campus, students draw on the skills and talents of an international faculty trained among the best universities of Europe and North America. Our strong international networks also give our students the opportunity to study abroad, and to connect with Christians and churches around the world.

In addition to our own faculty, the college regularly welcomes leading international scholars and postdoctoral researchers, who participate in a range of short lecture presentations and workshops, or stay for longer-term research visits. And the college’s renowned Mackay Lecture Series — which has included speakers such as Jürgen Moltmann and Walter Brueggemann — offers a vital forum for international theology in Asia.

Throughout Asia, the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary offers a unique mixture of global and local perspectives on faith, theology, and the life and work of the church.

This is reflected in our college vision: faith in God, love for all people, and passion for the land.

Welcome to our passion.
